Contracting Fungus

Onychomycosis is most often found on the toenails of men and the fingernails of women.

Risk factors for nail fungus include:

* Increasing age. Overall, onychomycosis is more common in adults than children. Investigators assert that the slowly advancing age of the population is the single reason behind the rise in incidents of onychomycosis. However, the condition is prevalent in children and young adults, especially those involved with sports
* Diabetes mellitus increases your risk of developing nail fungus.
* Impaired venous and lymphatic drainage. In one study of patients with chronic venous insufficiency, the frequency of onychomycosis was 36.11%
* Poorly fitting shoes.
